Diana Shostak from Lviv became the world champion in karate among students (kumite, weight category up to 55 kg). The protégé of Honored Coach of Ukraine Anton Nikulin triumphed at the competition in Turkey after winning the European University Karate Games in Poland. Diana also won a gold medal there.
In Turkey, Diana represented Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture and Union sports club.
The karateka began her journey to gold with a victory over an athlete from Turkey. Then Diana defeated the representatives of Croatia and Slovakia, and in the final she again defeated a local athlete.
“This victory is a very pleasant surprise for me, as I did not have a full training process due to an injury. My coach Anton Nikulin understood this perfectly, so he did not set specific tasks before the competition, but wished me success. I believe that experience helped me at such a prestigious tournament. I didn’t know what to expect from my athletic form, but the experience helped a lot. I am satisfied with my work on the tatami, because I managed to make a minimum number of mistakes,” said Diana Shostak.
Let’s add that in Turkey another medal in karate was won by Yury Mosiychuk, a pupil of the club “Samurai” and Igor Bohdan. He competed in the weight category up to 60 kg and won a bronze medal for the Ivan Bobersky LDUFK.
