Vladyslav Fyschuk, a pupil of the “Debut” Junior High School, became the silver medalist of the World Chess Olympiad under the age of 16.
He achieved such success in the international arena, playing as part of the Ukrainian national team on the third board (chessboard).
According to the Sports Department of Lviv City Council, among 63 chess players from 47 countries of the world, Vladyslav showed the second result on the third board, scoring 7.5 points out of 9 possible. Vlad lost the first place to the Chinese chess player, who also scored 7.5 points.
Vladyslav Fishchuk is a student of Volodymyr Grabinsky, and the first chess coach is Roman Gubka.
“What is interesting is that the Ukrainian national team, which took the 14th final place out of 63 national teams, was entirely made up of students of the Debut Junior High School. This despite the fact that the best chess players under the age of 16, not from schools, but from countries, were included in the other teams! Maksym Dubnevich, Anastasia Hnatyshyn, Vladyslav Fishchuk and Roman Kovalskyi played for the Ukrainian national team. Our team beat the bronze medalists the Greek team – 2.5 to 1.5”, – noted the sports department of the Lviv City Council.
The World Under-16 Chess Olympiad was held in the Netherlands (Eindhoven).
