Judokas Olga Tsimko and Mykola Hrybyk win medals at the Ukrainian Championship
For the first time in 30 years, the Ukrainian Championship was held in Lviv region.
Olga Tsimko became the champion of Ukraine in the 70 kg weight category, and Nikolay Gribik won bronze among athletes weighing over 100 kg.
The judokas represent the Lviv Regional School of Higher Sportsmanship. Olha is coached by Vladyslav Drebot and Mykola is coached by Yaroslav Hrybyk.
It is worth reminding that Lviv Region hosted the Ukrainian Judo Championship among adults for the first time in 30 years. It took place on 17-18 October at the athletics arena of the summer sports training centre of the Ministry of Defence.
Athletes born in 2009 and older took part in the competition. They competed for 14 sets of awards in weight categories from 48 to over 100 kg (7 weight categories for women and 7 for men).
“When choosing venues for major national competitions, federations take into account many criteria. One of the key ones is whether there is a suitable base. After our last year’s reconstruction of the arena of the MoD Summer Sports Training Centre, there are no issues with this.
But an equally important factor is the presence of a person and a team that can coordinate all the processes on site. Such a person in judo is Serhiy Drebot, who has gone from being a little boy brought to the gym by his father to an international master of sports and Olympic participant.
Today Serhiy is the head of the Lviv Regional Judo Federation, which is one of the best in Lviv Oblast in terms of quality indicators,” says Roman Khimyak, Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Oblast State Administration.
