Fifteen medals won by athletes from Lviv region at the ISO World Combat Self-Defence Championships

According to the results of the competition, the national team of Ukraine took an honourable second place in the team competition.

The ISO World Self-Defence Combat Championships among adults, juniors and youths took place from 10 to 13 October in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

The competition was attended by 1121 athletes from 32 countries.

The Ukrainian team took the second team place, winning 103 gold, 90 silver and 40 bronze medals.

The team consisted of nine athletes from Lviv region, pupils of the UNION Professional Martial Arts Club under the guidance of coach Viktor Lazurko.

Among the champions and winners of the championship:

Yulia Lazurko, 28, became the champion and twice the vice-champion among adults in the 50 kg category. Dmytro Voskoboinyk, 19, became the world champion in the adult category under 60 kg. Severin Smilko, 17, is a two-time world junior champion in the 75 kg category. Darii Hrytsiuk, 16, is the world junior champion in the 60 kg category. Ilariya Ohiychuk, 13, is a two-time world champion among girls in the 60 kg category. Snizhana Vinnichenko, 31, is the world vice-champion and bronze medallist among adults in the 50 kg category. The vice-champion among younger boys in the category under 35 kg is 10-year-old Maksym Oslaba. Maria Bilobran, 20, is a two-time bronze medallist at the World Championships among adults in the category under 55 kg. Anastasia Kotsur, 18, is a bronze medallist among adults in the category under 55 kg.

“Martial arts, from the classic ones like judo and boxing to the new ones like ISO self-defence combat, foster an important quality – the ability to fight, which is extremely relevant today,” said Roman Khimyak, Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
