Swimmers from Lviv region qualified for the European Championships

Swimmers from Lviv region at the Ukrainian Championship: medals, masters of sports and selection for the European Championship

The Ukrainian Swimming Championship was held in Brovary on 5-8 May. The sporting event brought together athletes from almost all regions of the country. 12 athletes from Lviv region competed there. Georgiy Lukashev and Sofia Lesnyak won medals.

Georgy became an absolute champion in two distances: 400 m medley and 200 m butterfly. In the 800m freestyle, he lost to the European champion, silver and bronze medallist of the 2020 Olympic Games, Mikhail Romanchuk.

Heorhii will represent the Ukrainian national team at the European Championships in the 400m medley in June in Belgrade, Serbia.

Also, two swimmers fulfilled the standard of Master of Sports of Ukraine:

“Swimming is a sport that has recently begun to show positive dynamics, and this is primarily due to two factors: the creation of new infrastructure – swimming pools that have been restored through the synergy of efforts and budgets of local, regional and state levels, in particular in Chervonohrad, Busk, Davydiv; and high-quality interaction with the regional federation,” said Roman Khimyak, head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
