More than 30 athletes from the Lviv region are preparing to compete for awards at the European Games

In a month, on June 21, the III European Games will start in Poland.

This is a multi-sport competition launched in 2015. The most prestigious multi-sports forum on the continent will be hosted by Krakow and other cities of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship from June 21 to July 2.

More than 7,000 athletes from 48 countries will participate in the competition, who will compete for 253 sets of medals over 12 days. Representatives of Ukrainian sports also compete for awards. 32 athletes from Lviv Oblast are applying to participate in the national team.

A ticket to the European Games has already been won by four shot putters from the Lviv region – Yuliya and Pavlo Korostylov, Anastasia Nimec and Svyatoslav Hudziy. Snizhana-Sofia Pavlikovska, a representative of this sport, can also get into the national team. Master of bench shooting Olena Okhotska is also preparing to participate in the Games.

Fencers Claude Yunes, Andrii Pogrebnyuk, Danyil Hoyda and Rostyslav Hertsyk are also preparing to win awards for Ukraine. Maksym Garavskyi and Bohdan Pnivchuk will be substitutes in the national team. Rowing fans will also have someone to cheer for – Oleksandr Zaitsev and Valeriya Tereta will definitely go to the competition. Vitaly Vergeles is still fighting for a place in the national team.

The masters of archery are also preparing to go to the competition in Poland – Solomiya Hnyp, Oleksandr Pantsyru and George Ivanytskyi have already won a place in the national team. In reserve – archer Veronika Marchenko. Karate athletes Halyna Melnyk and Kateryna Kryva have already confirmed their participation in the Games.

Track and field athletes Vadym Kravchuk, Roman Rostykus, Ulyana Rachynska, and Maryana Shostak are also intensively preparing for participation in the European Games. The final composition of the national team in this sport will be determined at the team championship of Ukraine, which will be held at the end of the month in Lviv.

Representatives of Lviv Oblast will also probably be seen in such sports as breaking – Oleksandr Gatyn-Lozynskyi is preparing to participate here, and beach soccer – Iryna Slavich is preparing to win awards as part of the national team. As part of the beach handball national team, Lviv women Victoria Saltanyuk and Maria Krylova will compete for medals for Ukraine. Lviv triathlete Sofia Pryma and boxer Danyil Zamorylo are also planning to perform at the European Games. The pentathlete Yuriy Kovalchuk also has a chance to fight for a place in the national team.

Note that for representatives of Olympic sports, the 2023 European Games will be an important stepping stone on the way to Paris-2024. After all, in addition to awards, licenses for the next summer Olympics will also be raffled off in Krakow. In addition, European championships will be held in 12 sports within the Eurogames.

As a reminder, there will be no athletes representing the Russian Federation and Belarus at the European Games in Krakow. This decision was made by the organizing committee of the competition.
