Today in Kyiv, patients of the Lviv center “Unbroken” will overcome the “longest marathon in the world”

This Sunday, October 29, in the capital of Ukraine, patients of the National Rehabilitation Center UNBROKEN in Lviv will overcome a symbolic kilometer on prostheses, crutches and wheelchairs.

At 11:30 a.m., a charity run of gratitude and support for the Heroes who have been protecting Ukraine for more than 9 years will start in Kyiv as part of the “World’s Longest Marathon”. The large-scale charity event is organized by the Nova Poshta company. The organizers called this marathon the longest, because no sports race lasts as long as the war in Ukraine.

You can participate in the event remotely – from anywhere in the world. More than 10,000 participants of the marathon will run with starting numbers, on which, instead of numbers, there are facts about the war in Ukraine and the names of the people to whom the participants are dedicating their run.

Defenders who are being treated, rehabilitated and have prosthetics in Lviv, at the UNBROKEN center, will join the charity run. Including:

– Ihor Krupnov is the first patient in the history of Ukraine with a bone-implanted prosthesis. The defender lost both legs in the Kherson region. He was a marathon runner before he was seriously injured. And now Igor will overcome the symbolic distance on osseointegrating prostheses.

– Yevgeny Schwab is a former policeman from Zhytomyr Oblast. He received severe leg and back wounds in the battles for Luhansk Region. Yevgeny has a high amputation and one of the most difficult types of prosthetics.

– Pavlo Patseruk is a soldier who was wounded near Bakhmut, underwent 9 operations and has been fighting for the preservation of his leg for 4 months. He still cannot feel his limbs and surgeons continue to save his right leg from amputation. Pavlo will cover the distance on crutches.

– Dmytro Ustymenko is an Aitivite from Poltava who became a soldier. The enemy did not spare an entire anti-tank missile on this one defender. Dmytro lost his leg, but not the desire to further defend the country – already on a prosthesis.

The UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Center is a unique place where adults and children who have suffered from Russian aggression receive comprehensive qualified medical care. This is reconstructive surgery, orthopedics and robotic prosthetics. Victims are not only fitted with prostheses, they are made here. The center also deals with physical, psychological and psychosocial rehabilitation of injured soldiers and civilians.

Since the start of the full-scale war, more than 15,000 wounded soldiers and civilians have already received help here. The goal of the center is to ensure that people with war injuries do not have to go abroad for treatment, but that they can be rescued, prosthetics, and rehabilitated in Ukraine.
