“Sports Vacation 2023” opened with rowing training: how to register for other classes

The Department of Youth and Sports of Lviv OVA together with regional sports schools and sports federations is launching the project for children “Sports Holidays 2.0”.

This is a continuation of the project launched last year to popularize sports and active leisure for children.

One of the first events of the project, which took place today, June 22, is an open kayaking and canoeing training in Navaria. Open competitions in this sport in memory of Hanna Karbivnyk are also taking place here today.

Before the start of the training, a briefing was held at the location, during which the organizers and partners talked about this year’s stage of the project.

As the head of LOVA youth and sports department Roman Khimyak said, the goal of the project is to provide children with high-quality and meaningful leisure time during the holidays. Last year’s training was a success, because almost 4,000 children took part in it.

“Rowing sports will be very interesting for those who have never been on the water before. In addition to kayaks and canoes, you can also practice on a paddle board. This sport is especially interesting for younger age groups.

We strive to create the best possible conditions for children to be comfortable and safe – especially in those areas where it is not difficult to do so. “Sports vacation” is a synergy of coaches, sports federations and socially responsible business.

Last year, almost 4,000 children took part in the project, including a significant number of IDPs. They got acquainted with about 20 sports,” Roman Khimyak noted.

Why it will be interesting for children and their parents to come to rowing training, said Oksana Storozhuk, a kayaking and canoeing coach and canoeist of the SDYUSSHOR “Veslyarik”, winner of the regional award “Young Coach of the Year 2022”.

“Rowing is one of the best summer sports. In the summer, it is a pleasure for children to spend time in nature, on the lake, because we work in different weather. It is one of the least traumatic sports, it is almost impossible to get injured on the water. Children do not go out on the water without supervision and without life jackets, and the school provides children with a boat, an oar, and a life jacket. We learn basic skills on the shore, then we train children on the water.

Our children are of different ages, but the best time to start classes is 10-11 years old. Thanks to rowing, endurance, strength, speed, and the necessary coordination are cultivated. Children can come with their parents and have fun together,” said Oksana Storozhuk.

She also added that the specialized children’s and youth sports school “Veslyarik” has about 150 athletes, and 4 pupils of the school represent Ukraine at the “European Games” competitions, which are currently underway in Krakow.

Registered participants will receive messages about the exact time of training. Information can also be found on the website of the Lviv OVA and on the Facebook page of the youth and sports department of the Lviv OVA.

It should be noted that the partner of the “Sports Vacation” project is the “Limo” brand. As Nataliya Stek, head of Limo’s marketing department, noted, it is very important for the company to give joy to children in such a difficult period.

“We know that childhood, summer and ice cream are always nearby, because it is about carefreeness and happy moments. And in such a difficult period, we are very pleased that we can give this joy, support sports and such good initiatives, because “Limo” is a socially responsible business throughout its activities,” added Nataliya Steck.
