The national selection for the International Invictus Games (“Invincible Games”) will be held very soon in Lviv. A record number of participants for Ukraine registered for this selection – 250 servicemen and war veterans who suffered injuries, injuries, as a result of or during the performance of official duties.
Participants of the Invictus Games national selection will try their hand at 9 adaptive sports:
1. wheelchair basketball. The minimum number of people in the team is 6. For the first time, the national team of Ukrainian veterans participated in this sport at the Invictus Games 2022 in The Hague, which were postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic;
2. cycling. Men and women compete in separate time categories. Distance – 2.1 km;
3. rowing on simulators. Here, among men and women, 2 types are distinguished: a 1-minute individual sprint and a 4-minute individual endurance race;
4. sitting volleyball. The second team sport in the national selection. The team consists of at least 8 people;
5. athletics. In this event, the “undefeated” will compete in several disciplines: running 100, 200, 400, 1500 meters and 4×100 m relay, long jump, shot put;
6. table tennis. Competitions in this type of sport will be held this year for the first time. They are planned to be held in singles and mixed doubles;
7. powerlifting. As many as 5 weight categories await participants. For men, the lightest category is up to 63 kg, for women – up to 52. The heaviest – from 105 kg and from 85 kg, respectively;
8. swimming. Men and women compete at different distances (50 or 100 m) in the following styles: freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. In addition, the participants of the competition are also waiting for the mixed 4×50 m freestyle relay;
9. archery. In this event, men and women compete separately in three events and three categories. Since 2017, the team of Ukrainian archers has performed decently and stably, and every time it brings home winners or medalists of competitions.
According to the results of the national selection in Lviv, the national team of Ukraine will be formed from 24 participants, who will represent our country at the international Invictus Games in Düsseldorf (Germany) in September.

The Invictus Games were launched in 2014 by Prince Harry and were first held in London (UK). About 300 athletes from 13 countries who fought alongside the United Kingdom in recent military campaigns took part in them.
The Invictus Games 2023 will be held in Düsseldorf (Germany) from September 9 to 16, 2023 under the motto “HOUSE FOR RESPECT”.
Ukraine has been participating in the Invictus Games since 2017.
Despite the large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian national team consisting of 19 athletes took part in the 2022 Invictus Games in The Hague (Netherlands) and won 16 medals in individual sports.
