Volodymyr Tovkis, a four-time winner of the Invictus Games, competed in the Warriors’ Cup: how sport changed his life

Recently, the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lviv OVA held the 3rd Warriors’ Cup. Volodymyr Tovkis is among those who took part in it.

Veteran of the National Guard, multi-medalist of the “Invincible Games” Volodymyr Tovkis recently became extremely popular in the Ukrainian Tik Tok segment.

He impressed Ukrainians by scoring in the top ten in archery at the Invictus Games. Volodymyr achieves high results in this sport by shooting with his teeth. His path to international competitions is extremely difficult. However, few people know that Ihor Galushka, a native of Lviv with a similar injury, inspired him to this path.

Recently, the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lviv OVA held the 3rd Warriors’ Cup. Volodymyr Tovkis is among those who took part in it. In September 2019, he was seriously injured in the head on the Svitlodar arc. After a severe head injury, he spent 11 days in a coma. Doctors did not give comforting forecasts. However, thanks to active rehabilitation and perseverance, today Volodymyr inspires many of his comrades not to give up after being injured.

He shared his story in an exclusive interview, which was prepared by the youth and sports department of the Lviv OVA as part of the “League of the Invincibles” program.

“There were not many injuries like mine at that time – about 10 people. Friends and comrades came and showed me a video of how Igor Halushka from “Azov” participates in the selection for the Invictus Games. They showed that there is a boy with a similar injury, only mine is in the right hemisphere, and Igor has it in the left. That is, we can say that we have identical injuries. I looked – dude can do it, so can I too. Now we communicate very well,” shared Volodymyr Tovkis.

Volodymyr believes that one of the main tasks of adaptive sports is to get a veteran out of the gray everyday life.

“It is very important that veterans and military personnel returning after being wounded keep in mind such positive examples as Volodymyr – when, despite the lack of comforting forecasts from doctors, systematic training and active rehabilitation work a miracle. This is exactly the task we set ourselves when “we launched the League, and soon we plan to present a series of such documentary stories, which we will talk about in more detail later,” says the head of the youth and sports department of Lviv OVA Roman Khimyak.

We will remind you that “League of the Invincibles” is a project of sports opportunities from the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Oblast, aimed at the psychological and physical rehabilitation of military personnel.
