African Swine Fever in Lviv District: Veterinarians Sound the Alarm

African swine fever has been detected in the hunting grounds of the Lviv district, posing a serious threat to livestock. The Lviv City State Veterinary Medicine Hospital urges residents to immediately report any suspicious symptoms in pigs.

This viral disease is characterized by fever, cyanosis of the skin, and internal bleeding. Although the virus is not a danger to humans, it can cause significant economic damage as there are no cures or vaccines against it.

The Main Department of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in the Lviv region reported the death of wild pigs near the village of Suhorychchia. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of African swine fever. In response, the district administration has imposed quarantine and developed a plan of measures to combat the disease.

The virus is resilient and spreads quickly, so all cases of suspicious symptoms should be urgently reported to the Main Department of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection by phone at 0322 613 690 or via email at office@lvivdpss.gov.ua.
