The Berlin transport company is ready to hand over 12 used KT4D working trams and their spare parts to Lviv free of charge. Lviv has to pay for transportation, customs clearance and conversion of wagons to the width of the Lviv track.
Oleg Zabarilo, director of the department of urban mobility and street infrastructure of the LMR, told about this.
“Such trams in Lviv. Back in 2018, the city purchased 30 used KT4D trams from Berlin. They have proven themselves quite well, in particular, they have a modernized control and power system. And this allows you to significantly save electricity.
And now we get 12 trams free of charge. But the city must bear the costs of delivery, customs clearance and conversion of wagons. According to preliminary calculations, it is about the amount of more than 24 million hryvnias.
In particular, with regard to delivery, LKP “Lvivelectrotrans” has already announced the corresponding purchase. So those willing can apply and participate in the tender. Based on the results of the procurement, we will have the exact amount for the delivery of these trams to Lviv. There is also a need to pay customs fees. And it is necessary to convert the carts from a wide to a narrow track,” Oleg Zabarilo explained.
The official added that the city should receive all trams in the spring – from mid-April to the end of May.
As specified by LKP “Lvivelectrotrans”, the first trams can leave the line at the end of May – at the beginning of June this year. It is planned that they will run on routes #3 and #6.
As a reminder, in the second half of this year, Lviv will also receive 11 used working trams from Bern for free. Here, the carriages will be delivered at the expense of the Swiss side.
By the way, in 2022, Lviv sent requests to European cities regarding the possibility of transferring used trams to Lviv free of charge.
