“I can’t stand aside”: how an American volunteer of “Medical and Psychological Aid” helps Ukraine

The story of the American volunteer of “Medical and Psychological Assistance” Craig Leslie is impressive. At the age of 76, he came to Ukraine and has been helping our country for eight months.

“I can’t stay away. I have to be here. You can’t just watch when women, children and people with disabilities suffer,” said 76-year-old American Craig Leslie.

During the last eight months, he has been in Ukraine and at the Main Railway Station of Lviv, together with volunteers of Medical and Psychological Assistance, he meets evacuation trains and buses, helps displaced people get off the train and remove things, provides information and directs them to transport, settlement or assistance.

Also, Craig Leslie financially supports people in need. Together with writers from Poland, Germany and Ukraine, he is writing a book about the war and volunteers. He plans to direct all proceeds to aid our state.

Craig remains in Ukraine, continues to volunteer at the Main Railway Station in Lviv with the Medical and Psychological Assistance team, and is actively learning the Ukrainian language with a teacher.

“Volunteering at the station showed me how sincere people are here. I also understand that without medical and psychological help, the war would have been completely different,” he said.

We will remind you that the volunteer initiative of medical and psychological assistance at the Main Railway Station of Lviv has been working since the beginning of the full-scale war at the initiative of the Lviv OVA and partners.
