A domestic dog bit four people in the Lviv region and died the next day. The examination confirmed that the dog had rabies.
“Quarantine restrictions were introduced in one of the settlements of the Horodotsk territorial community. These are forced measures due to the fact that rabies was detected in a domestic dog. Three people could become infected with the virus through bites, scratches, and stings from an animal. They were recommended to go to medical facilities for anti-rabies vaccination,” said the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration Maksym Kozytskyi.
According to Iryna Fesenko, an epidemiologist of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, four people were bitten, scratched and blinded.
“The owner of the dog said that the shepherd was always in the enclosure. He was let out for a walk only in the yard and he allegedly did not come into contact with other animals. The owner noticed that something was wrong with the dog and wanted to take it to the vet for a checkup. When he let the dog out of the enclosure, it bit him,” said Iryna Fesenko.
Three more people were scratched and blinded. According to the doctor, all the victims immediately sought help from a doctor and are receiving appropriate anti-rabies treatment.
