The settlement of bison has been living in the forest fund of Brody forestry since the 80s. Recently, foresters counted 114 animals there. This is currently the largest population in Ukraine.

Did you know?

The number of bison is increasing every year. It is also influenced by the quality care of specialists, protection, watering, feeding, and all biotechnical measures.

Bison are protected by law.

To preserve and ensure the stable maintenance of the only population of Bialowieza bison in Ukraine, in 2007, on the initiative of the Minister, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine approved an action plan for the conservation and restoration of bison in the fauna of Ukraine.

During the implementation of the scientific program, 12 more Caucasian bison were imported and released into the farm’s lands. Currently, there are two local reproductive and the most numerous subpopulations of bison in Ukraine – the Bialowieza and Bialowieza-Caucasian lines.
