Lviv region: border guards expose import of more than 100 cars under the guise of humanitarian aid

Operational officers of the Lviv Border Guard Detachment in cooperation with the SBU Military Counterintelligence Department, detectives of the BES in Lviv region, employees of the Regional Centre for Operational and Technical Measures in Lviv, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, exposed a scheme to import cars into the customs territory of Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid.

Law enforcement officers found that in February this year, a group of people set up a charity fund. Under the guise of helping the army, the dealers imported 130 cars to Ukraine. Later, they sold some of the vehicles through online car sales websites. In this way, the offenders managed to evade paying UAH 8 million in taxes and customs duties.

During the searches, law enforcement officers seized cars, cash, documents, computer equipment, draft records, seals, flash drives, etc.

The full range of people involved in the scheme is currently being identified. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
