With the arrival of spring, there is a danger associated with the active burning of plant residues by citizens.
In 2024, 188 fires in ecosystems have already been recorded in the Lviv region. Burning dry grass poses a threat to the environment and is dangerous to human and animal life.
To prevent fires in ecosystems in the Lviv region, SES employees, together with local governments, the National Police, territorial and public ecologists, organized raids to identify arsonists.
Every day, these groups check forests, including public recreation areas, fields, peat bogs, nature reserves, landfills and settlements.
If arsonists are found, SES inspectors draw up reports on administrative offenses. Since the beginning of the year, 88 such reports have been drawn up. Setting fire to dry grass is punishable by law in the form of a fine:
for citizens, from UAH 3,060 to UAH 6,120
for officials – UAH 15,300 to UAH 21,420.
During these events, citizens are also informed about fire prevention in ecosystems. Since the beginning of the year, 499 briefings have been held, reaching 1338 people.
“We urge all citizens to refrain from burning dry grass. Instead of burning dry grass, there are safer and more environmentally friendly alternatives, such as using plant waste as a natural fertilizer. Let’s be responsible for our environment and avoid actions that could cause irreparable damage,” the Civil Protection Department of Lviv Regional Military Administration emphasized.
