At the exit from Lviv towards Malekhiv, it will be possible to drive without standing at traffic lights

The Lvivska Hromada has launched the “green wave” mode of coordinated traffic light control at another, fifth, location – towards the village of Malekhiv. Three traffic lights were synchronised there so that in the morning a section of streets on the way out of Lviv could be driven faster – without stopping at each of these traffic lights. It is also expected that this will reduce the load on the section in front of the traffic lights on Khmelnytskoho Street – Poliska Street during morning rush hours. This was reported by Lvivavtodor.

The utility company notes that the “green wave” in Malekhiv village consists of 3 traffic lights: near the Ukrnafta petrol station, the monument to Taras Shevchenko and on Volodymyr Velykyi Street – M06. The traffic speed at which you can drive through the traffic lights without stopping is 45-50 km/h. “The launch of the green wave will, in particular, improve traffic safety in the community,” said Taras Mazur, head of the transport planning, modelling and traffic management department at Lvivavtodor.

It is also expected to reduce the load on the area in front of the Khmelnytskoho Street – Poliska Street traffic lights during morning peak hours.

“Two of these traffic lights are regulated pedestrian crossings with a pedestrian phase call. In order to be able to coordinate the operation of these three traffic lights in a strict coordination mode, it was necessary to make changes to the control programmes. Therefore, before making such changes, we conducted a study on the use of the pedestrian phase call button. Based on the results of the study, we decided to develop strict control programmes for these facilities for the period 07:00-10:00 and coordinate their work,” explained Taras Mazur, head of the transport planning, modelling and traffic management department of Lvavtodor.

The utility company reminded that currently, in the Lviv metropolitan area, “green wave” traffic lights are already operating in 5 sections: on Horodotska Street (two sections), on Chornovil Avenue, Lypynskoho Street and in Malekhiv village.

“We continue to implement a strategy to improve traffic safety and upgrade the traffic management system in general. One of its elements is the optimisation and modernisation of traffic lights to reduce congestion and emissions. Thus, since the beginning of the year, such traffic light control has been in operation at 5 sections in Lviv. “The “green waves” are set up to make it easier to leave the city,” summed up Mykola Vlasiuk, director of Lvivavtodor.
