Last weekend, from July 1 to 2, a record 61,000 people and more than 10,000 vehicles passed through checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Polish border in the Lviv region.
The number of travelers at the border increased with the beginning of the summer season. Citizens go on vacation, to rest, to visit relatives, etc. The increase in the number of organized groups of children who cross the border during the holidays should be highlighted separately.
The biggest queues are observed especially on weekends, notes the press service officer of the Western Regional Department of the State Border Service, Oleksandra Kuchkovska, and recommends travelers to monitor the status of checkpoints on the Facebook page of the Western Regional Department and on the information resources of the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland.
In general, the number of vehicles crossing the Ukrainian-Polish border in the Lviv region in both directions has increased to 1.5 thousand units per day and is now 9-10 thousand within all checkpoints. The number of citizens crossing the border has increased to 4.5 thousand, an average of 49 thousand citizens per day. The biggest load falls on the “Krakivets” and “Sheghini” checkpoints.
We observe the largest accumulation of motor vehicles before the weekend – Thursday, Friday, Saturday. In the future – Sunday, Monday, we observe more accumulation in the direction of entry into Ukraine. We observe the shortest queues in front of the checkpoint for departure from Ukraine on Monday-Tuesday, for entry into Ukraine – Tuesday, Wednesday, commented Serhii Veretilnyk, head of the department of inspectors of the border service “Krakivets”, commenting on the situation in the area of responsibility.
The accumulation of passenger buses should be highlighted separately. Taking into account the schedule of departures from railway stations, most buses arrive at the border in the afternoon and the first half of the night. To cross the border, drivers often choose the checkpoints “Krakivets”, “Sheghini”. Queues of buses can also be observed in “Rava-Ruska” and “Hrusheva”.
Pedestrians are allowed to pass only at the Sheghini checkpoint. On weekends, the crosswalk is also occasionally crowded. About 100 people can expect to leave for a neighboring country. On weekdays, the passage of pedestrians across the border is carried out rhythmically.
Taking into account the fact that such a trend has been monitored for a month, border guards predict that the flow of passengers will remain stable until the end of the season.
We recommend citizens planning a trip across the Ukrainian-Polish border to take the above information into account when planning their trips. It should be noted that the passage of persons and vehicles across the state border depends on the work of all representatives of the control services who carry out their activities at the checkpoints, as well as on the work of the control services of the neighboring party.
