Do not throw away bags in containers for organics: Lviv residents are urged to carefully sort waste

Lviv residents often throw away organic matter in special containers together with bags. Because of this, municipal workers have to additionally sort organic waste at the city composting station. They collect plastic bags, glass and other waste.

Therefore, the employees of the Lviv communal enterprise “Green City” remind the residents of Lviv about the need and importance of careful sorting of organic matter. Also in Lviv they teach how to sort waste for free.

In Lviv, 99% of residents are able to sort organics. The city has 1,660 containers for sorting food and garden waste at 1,513 locations. Subsequently, organic waste from special containers goes to the city composting station at 13 Plastova Street in Lviv.

According to utility workers, due to the carelessness of the residents, the workers of the composting station have to additionally manually sort the organic matter.

“Here is something that may surprise you. This organic matter is sorted by hand, by human power. The plastic bags in which it arrives are torn. And here manual sorting begins – to separate organics from plastic and plastic bags. Such work requires a lot of effort and time.

But we can change it together! To do this, we urge all of you to pour organic waste from plastic bags into special containers for organic waste. These containers are located at almost all garbage sites in our city. Let’s show our support to the workers of the city composting station and make their work easier,” urged LKP “Green City”.

Residents are reminded how to properly sort organic waste. In particular, the following can be thrown into the special brown bins for organics:

– leftovers of raw vegetables and fruits;

– egg shells;

– flour products, leftover confectionery products;

– tea leaves without tea bags, leftover coffee;

– mowed grass;

– withered flowers.

Instead, the following cannot be thrown into containers for organics:

– meat, fish, dairy and fatty products;

– solid household waste;

– glass and glass containers;

– plastic, various bags, packaging waste, tetra-pac;

– napkins and paper products;

– fabric products.

It should be noted that on the basis of the Lviv Special Communtrans LLP, the waste management department of the Lviv City Council teaches everyone who wants to properly sort waste. Training is conducted both for children and for Lviv residents of a respectable age.
