On March 5, the first two low-floor trams, gifted by the Swiss city of Bern, started operating in Lviv. They service route №1, which connects the railway station and Pogulyanka.
Before entering service, the trams were equipped with automated fare payment systems, audio and digital passenger information systems, and ramps for accessibility. Additional lighting was installed, and the wagons underwent certification and testing. Training was organized for drivers.
The head of LCP ‘Lvivelectrotrans’, Vasyl Petsukh, announced that four more wagons are expected to start operations by the end of March. The remaining five units of electric transport from Bern are anticipated to arrive by the end of April.
The ‘Bern Trams for Lviv’ project is supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs and includes the transfer of 11 Vevey trams, spare parts, tools, and staff training. The city will also receive 25 large used trams from Basel and 10 smaller wagons for spare parts. In 2024, Lviv will be delivered 12 energy-efficient KT4D trams from the Berlin Transport Company.
