Driver Fails to Respond to Signals and Collides with Locomotive
Fortunately, no one was injured in the traffic accident.
The incident occurred on April 22 in the village of Verchany in the Stryi district. As preliminary established by law enforcement officers, the driver of a Nissan car, a 61-year-old resident of one of the local villages, failed to respond to the prohibitory sound and light signals at the railway crossing and proceeded onto the crossing, where he collided with a locomotive. No one was injured in the accident.
Administrative Responsibility of the Driver
The police filed an administrative protocol against the minibus driver under Art. 124 (Violation of traffic rules resulting in damage to vehicles, cargo, roads, streets, railway crossings, road facilities, or other property) of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for a fine of twenty tax-free minimum incomes of citizens or deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of six months to one year.
Warning for Drivers
Lviv police remind that the railway is a high-risk zone and urge drivers to be particularly attentive and cautious when crossing railway crossings.
Drivers, remember: when approaching the crossing, as well as starting to move after stopping in front of it, you are obliged to follow the instructions and signals of the crossing attendant, the position of the barrier, light and sound signals, road signs, and road markings, and also ensure that a train is not approaching.
