Ivano-Frankivsk has decided to implement Lviv’s approach to managing abandoned vehicles. The city council deputies supported the initiative to relocate abandoned cars with visible damages that spoil the urban environment to the police impound lot. Andriy Yaremko illustrative photo by: Roman Baluk.
Maksym Smilevskyi, head of the Department of Safety and Street Infrastructure of the Lviv City Council, noted that such actions contribute to cleanliness and safety on the roads. In Lviv, this process began at the start of the year, and they plan to evacuate 14 more cars by the end of March. Currently, the commission is reviewing over 100 similar cases.
- The freed space is used for new parking spots or playgrounds.
- Fewer abandoned cars mean less garbage and fewer dangerous situations.
- Decreased environmental pollution from rusty vehicles.
In Lviv, district administrations account for such cars: if the owner does not respond within a month after receiving the notice, the vehicle is moved to an impound lot. Owners have six months to reclaim the vehicle after paying fees. If they do not, the car is put up for auction.
