An exhibition of works by the People’s Artist of Ukraine Mykhailo Bilas opened in the Drohobychyna Museum

In the first days of August, the centenary of the People’s Artist of Ukraine, unsurpassed master of woven tapestry Mykhailo Bilas was celebrated in Truskavets, Medvezh, Kolomyia, Lviv, and Drohobych.

Thus, in the Palace of Arts of the Drohobychyna Museum, on the occasion of the master’s honorable anniversary, the author’s works from the museum’s stock collection were presented. These are tapestries, applications, pastels, and, of course, his unique collection of dolls, which the museum acquired in the 80s. The exhibition project was complemented by works from the Bilas’ private family collection.

The festive exhibition was opened by Alla Hladun, director of the Drohobychchyna Museum, who emphasized the exceptional importance of the artist in the history of Ukrainian culture. After all, it was Mykhailo Bilas who brought the traditions of folk carpet weaving to the level of author’s, high professional art.

Olena Bilas-Berezova, director of the Mykhailo Bilas Art Museum in Truskavets, spoke about the pages of the master’s biography related to Drohobych at the opening of the exhibition. She also thanked everyone involved in the research and popularization of the creative heritage of the unsurpassed artist of Ukraine.

The celebration of Mykhailo Bilas’s centenary in the Palace of Arts of the Drohobychchyna Museum took place in a warm, intimate, and sincere atmosphere. The guests, including Dariia Tsymeyko and Valentyna Zdorovenko, shared their memories of the Truskavets master, who was known to many Drohobych residents. Musical compositions performed by saxophonist Nazariy Kaziv added to the creative atmosphere.

A celebration of beauty, a celebration of Ukrainian folk art, a celebration of the outstanding tapestry master, poet, musician and philosopher of artistic textiles, who is deservedly called the Maestro, gathered many fans and ardent supporters of Mykhailo Bilas’ talent. The exhibition project at the Palace of Arts, which will last for a month, is designed to help everyone to touch the unsurpassed creations of Mykhailo Bilas and be inspired by their beauty.
