Lviv Returns Historical Heritage to the Church
Today in Lviv, a long story concludes. The City Council, the Regional Military Administration, the State Special Communications, Broadcasting Concern, and the Lviv Archeparchy of the UGCC signed a memorandum. It allows the final return of the Church’s historical heritage – the Metropolitan Gardens and the Sheptytsky Library.
Restoring Justice
This is more than just a legal decision. It is the restoration of justice and respect for the heritage of our city. What was once taken away by the communists must belong to its rightful owners.
Next Steps
- Tomorrow, at the city council session, we will propose a decision that will allow the city to fulfill its part of the obligations. We are transferring the communal plot of the lower Metropolitan Gardens to the Regional Military Administration, which is to the state.
- The Broadcasting Concern ceases the use of the other two garden plots.
- The State Special Communications transfers the building of the Sheptytsky Library on Lystopadovoho Chynu, 28 to the Regional Military Administration.
- After this, colleagues from the RMA will merge the three land plots into one and are to transfer the entire land complex together with the Sheptytsky Library to the Church.
We expect all parties to act quickly and responsibly. Lviv is a city that honors its history. And today we have taken an important step to ensure this history is fair.
