It is a logical complement to the previously published Ukrainian-Croatian Dictionary.
Today, February 15, the Croatian-Ukrainian Dictionary was presented in Lviv. Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional Military District Administration, was one of the first to familiarize himself with the publication. The presentation was also attended by Iryna Butynets, Head of the Department of CBC and CU of the Lviv Regional State Administration, representatives of the clergy, educational and scientific communities, diplomatic corps and the Croatian diaspora of Lviv region.
“My heart is full. We are now implementing one of those projects that we would like to present to the people of Croatia and Ukraine. We know very well that a dictionary is not just a set of words in alphabetical order. It is something that connects people, leads us through time and space. For us, this volume is also a “child” of the war. And it is important for us that we have made a certain contribution to connecting our peoples at this time,” said Anica Djamic, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Croatia to Ukraine.
The authors are scholars from the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv – L. Vasylieva, O. Tkachuk, and V. Chumak. It consists of an introductory bilingual part and the actual translation dictionary (A to Z).
The dictionary’s register of over 25,000 entries is composed mainly of commonly used vocabulary with a small amount of archaisms, argotisms, and dialect words that are now part of the active vocabulary of the Croatian literary language.
When developing the structure of the dictionary, the compilers were guided by the needs of a wide range of users, native speakers of Ukrainian and Croatian.
Thus, it is noteworthy that the most common Croatian terms used in various fields of public life, science and technology were included in the dictionary’s register.
