Transcarpathian Resident Detained for Organizing Illegal Border Crossing

Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a 42-year-old resident of Transcarpathia has been notified of suspicion. He is charged with organizing the illegal transfer of a person across the state border of Ukraine (Part 3, Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Illegal Border Crossing Scheme

According to the investigation, in March this year, the suspect organized a scheme for the illegal border crossing of a man of conscription age for a financial reward. According to the plan, the “client” was transported from the city of Lviv to the Transcarpathian region, where he was placed in a hotel. Subsequently, on the designated day, the man was to be transferred across the state border outside the checkpoints to the Slovak Republic. He valued his services at 9,500 US dollars.

Apprehension and Investigation

The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while receiving the full amount of unlawful benefit. A preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen for him. Investigative actions are ongoing, and all involved persons are being identified. The pre-trial investigation is conducted by investigators of the investigative department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region, with the operational support of the Migration Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region and the 7th Border Carpathian Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a court verdict.
