Christmas is a special holiday, surrounded by miracles. Despite the war and the difficult situation that Ukraine is going through for the second year in a row, Ukrainians demonstrate to the whole world their indomitability and do not forget to preserve authentic national traditions.
Since maximum efforts are currently directed at supporting the military and providing shelter to people who were left homeless due to the armed attacks of the enemy, the Drohobytsk community is preparing to celebrate Christmas in a restrained manner and without excessive celebrations.
All events will be of a charitable nature. And the cycle of Christmas and New Year holidays in the community is planned to be filled with cultural and artistic events and carol festivals. Their goal is to promote the traditions of the Ukrainian Christmas carol and authentic greetings among both adults and children.
Therefore, starting from December 20, parishes of church communities will host a flash mob “Drohobychchyna carols”, which will be supported by professional performers – the choir of the Meritorious Carpathian Song and Dance Ensemble of Ukraine “Verkhovyna”, the chamber choir “Legend”, the folk men’s chamber choir “Boyan Drohobytskyi”. Together with the parishioners, the leadership of the Drohobych community will carol in the churches.
On December 25, everyone will celebrate Christmas – according to the new church calendar, together with the civilized European world.
At the end of the year, Drohobych will host a traditional exhibition of Christmas decorations. For the third year in a row, it will be exhibited on the terrace of “Franco Burger”. This year, the shops will be on public display on December 31.
On January 4, Drohobych will host a large-scale gastronomic festival “Gazdynia Fest”, which for several years in a row brings together the best gas houses of the Drogobych community with unique festive dishes. This year, the festival will be enhanced by the “Drohobytsky Kram” fair. The Drogobit festival “Gazdynia Fest” is the only gastronomic festival of this scale in the region. Year by year, it becomes more and more popular and attracts guests from Lviv Oblast and other regions. People come to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy national dishes and experience the true hospitality of Ukrainian hosts.
While the organizers have not revealed all the secrets of this year’s gastro-festival, they promise that it will be atmospheric and tasty. Funds will also be collected during the event to support Ukrainian soldiers.
On January 6, according to the new calendar, Ukrainians will celebrate the feast of John the Baptist. On this day, they plan to hold a traditional city-wide water festival.
And on January 7, the Nativity Parade will pass through the streets of Drohobych, which will demonstrate all the beauty of Ukrainian Christmas traditions, which the Ukrainian nation is rich in and which are passed down from year to year to the next generations.
