Over the course of 6 days, the participants of the master class, under the guidance of a mural restorer, will discover the historical polychromy of the entrance of the house on the street. I. Rutkovicha, 12. The organizers of the master class are the “Heritage Bureau” LKP and the “Garda” restoration workshop.
This was reported in the LKP “Heritage Bureau”
Removing these whitewashes is the first and most important stage of restoration. The purpose of the event is to use this building as an example to show a complex approach to the restoration of entrances in the historical part of the city, and to explain how classical repair differs from restoration.
“With this event, we want to encourage residents to consciously approach the work in their homes and common areas. If we are talking about historic buildings, then it is necessary to involve professional architects and restorers and follow their recommendations,” says Pavlo Bogajchyk, director of the “Heritage Bureau” LKP.
The master class will last one week, and the restoration work in the entrance will last until the end of the year. They are self-financed by the residents of the building.
“We do not have the task of producing a galaxy of restorers, we have the task of teaching people the right approach to restoration. What stages can residents perform on their own, when it is necessary to stop and call master restorers. If we clean these blanks correctly, this is 90% of a quality restoration. Our task is to show how classic repair with whitewash differs from restoration and to instill in people a feeling of beauty and authenticity,” says Iryna Girna.
“On the example of this building, we want to show a comprehensive approach to the restoration of entrances in the historical part of the city. The paintings here are not too special, but they, and stucco, and doors, and cobblestones have been preserved and should not just be repaired, but rather restored. And I am very happy that people who understand the value of restoration live in this building, who decided to finance the work of specialists themselves and to restore everything comprehensively,” says the founder of the restoration workshop “Garda” restorer Iryna Girna,” adds Ms. Iryna.
“Lvivians are often told that we are very lucky, because we have preserved much more heritage than in other cities. And it’s true. But at the same time, we see how people buy real estate in historical buildings because of its value on the market, without understanding what exactly makes it so valuable. And what makes it valuable is precisely the preserved historic carpentry, parquet, forging, paintings, stucco… People should realize how much work needs to be put in to even preserve what is there,” said one of the participants of the master class, Liliya Sushko.
Anyone can participate in the process, or watch it, by coming to the indicated location from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day, until June 24 inclusive.
We would like to remind you that this year this is the second event dedicated to the restoration of polychromes (murals), which we co-organize.
