The biggest sculptural event in the country: the Lviv Sculpture Week has started

The project will cover more than 10 exhibition spaces, will present more than 300 sculptures, objects and installations.

Today, September 20, the Lviv Sculpture Week started in the region and will last until October 11. On this occasion, the main project of the Lviv Sculpture Week “Old and New / New and Old” was opened in the Lviv Palace of Arts, which collected examples of sculpture from different times for a sharp dialogue in space. In the largest exhibition space of Lviv, the Lviv Palace of Arts, more than a hundred authors were presented on three floors.

The idea of holding the “Sculpture Week” (hereinafter – the Week) arose at a round table in the “Ya Gallery” art center, within the framework of the “New Lviv Sculpture” exhibition, where art critics and sculptors were present. Art critic Orest Golubets proposed this idea.

The curator and art manager of the Week is Pavlo Gudimov, the founder of the art center “Ya Gallery”. Co-organizers are also the Lviv National Academy of Arts with the support of the Lviv Regional Military Administration and the Lviv City Council.

“It is an honor for us to participate in such events, to be a co-author, a co-participant. A huge thank you to the Armed Forces for the opportunity to contemplate, appreciate, see and reproduce Ukrainian culture. The situation with the vandalism of the “Confident” sculpture in Stryi Park shows once again that, unfortunately, we do not appreciate what we have and what we create. We must learn to value ourselves and then the world will value us.

The name “Old and new / New and old” is about the fact that no one disputes the fact that we have a huge layer of heroic history, no one disputes that we are now creating a new history, a new success in the world and in Europe. In the same way, no one should dispute Ukrainian modern art. We learn to appreciate our sculptors, artists. Let’s value our own, let’s be united, because we are Ukrainians,” said Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv OVA, during the opening of the Lviv Sculpture Week.

The week is being organized for the second time and it is the largest sculptural event in the country. This year, the project will take place in more than 10 exhibition spaces, presenting more than 300 sculptures, objects and installations, including large-scale park and street sculpture projects.

Also this year, the organizers attracted a larger number of artists, museums, collectors, partners, audiences, which created an opportunity to reveal the theme of the interaction of the new and the old in the space of the main project, on the streets and in the parks of the city. In dialogue, juxtaposition or contradiction with the help of the universal language of sculpture and other types of spatial art, the Week speaks about time, about the city, about myths, canons, form and meaning, peace and war.

The program of the Week includes exhibitions, lectures, conferences, installations. The program of the Lviv Sculpture Week can be found at the following link: http://surl.li/lfyzt

We will remind you that last year the week of sculpture in Lviv took place from November 19 to 27. More than 200 sculptures of the XX-XXI centuries were presented as part of the artistic event.
