During the repair work in Belzchyna, a 300-year-old burial was discovered

In Ughnev in Belzchyna, an ancient burial site was discovered during road repair works. Yurii Kramar announced this in social networks.

On October 9, during the repair work of the E-14-04 road in Uhnov, an excavator unearthed an unknown burial. The next day, archaeologists from Lviv worked at this place. According to preliminary findings, the burial is about 300 years old.

“It is interesting that under the burials deeper, archaeologists found even older burials not typically placed, i.e. north-south. 25 burials were discovered under the old road surface. Next to those burials is an ancient historical monument in the form of a tall column with a cross. The burials seem to surround column. So, around the column there is some kind of local burial ground,” Yuriy Kramar wrote.

This column is already marked on Von-Migue’s map of 1770. However, the road goes around the burial place, Yuriy Kramar noted:

“Nearby (70 m to the north) there was an excavation, that is, a Jewish cemetery, which was destroyed by the Soviet authorities. Nearby, 30 m to the southeast, there is a building of the former county court. To the west of the found graves stood the house of the county judge, in which, when dismantled in 1952 two residents of Ugniv found a great treasure, which is described by a professor at the University of Lublin.”
Now the local authorities must determine the place of exhumation – reburial of the remains.
