Clay patterned textiles and, in particular, carpet weaving is a prominent artistic and cultural phenomenon in Europe in the late nineteenth and early twenty-first centuries, which art historians in the early twentieth century called the “carpet craze”.
Clay patterned textiles are a wide range of handmade artistic fabrics. Particularly popular were and still are hand-woven plain-woven carpets.
On 7 September at 15:00, the exhibition will also include a discussion panel “Clay carpet as an artistic phenomenon”. The event will be moderated by Rostyslav Shmahalo, Doctor of Art History, Professor at the Lviv National Academy of Arts.
On 27 January 2023, the art of clay patterned textiles was included in the list of elements of the intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine.
In 1996, the Lviv National Academy of Arts launched the International Ethno-Art Project “Ecological Perspective” (by Associate Professor of the Department of Artistic Textiles Zenovia Shulha), which became the artistic platform on which a number of art events are held annually, which contributed to the revival of carpet production in Hlynyany in 2021 by the private enterprise “Maria Ihorivna Fleichuk”.
The exhibition will last until 15 September!
