Yesterday marked exactly 40 days since the murder of political and public figure Iryna Farion. Therefore, it is symbolic that on this day, a memorial plaque to the linguist was unveiled on the facade of the house where she lived.
The plaque was unveiled at 3 Masaryk Street. This is where Iryna Farion lived. And it was next to this house that she was killed.
“My mother loved her Masaryk Street. She loved to walk here, work on her research papers, record videos for all Ukrainians, and just live. She lived on the fifth floor because she liked everything to be A-rated.
Today marks 40 days since the death of Ukraine’s greatest daughter, Iryna Farion. There will never be anyone like my mother again, no one will replace her,” said Sofia, the daughter of the linguist.
The unveiling of the plaque was attended by about a hundred people: Iryna Farion’s family and friends, colleagues, politicians, media representatives, etc. The city authorities were represented by Andriy Moskalenko, First Deputy Mayor of Lviv, and Yevhen Boyko, Director of the Mayor’s Administration Department.
“Each of us has our own memories of Ms Iryna. We met her when she was an MP. We discussed the idea of promoting the Ukrainian language through attractive summer camps. This idea is still alive and constantly evolving. As long as a person’s initiatives live, the person lives. That is why it is so important that Irina Farion’s initiatives continue to live on.
The horrific murder of Iryna Farion is a desire to inflict pain on the whole of Ukraine. Today, during a full-scale war, the only worthy response will be our victory,” said Andriy Moskalenko.
As a reminder, Irina Farion was shot on 19 July. The woman died in hospital. On 22 July, thousands of Ukrainians said goodbye to the linguist. She was buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery, on field 22.
