Maksym Kyryk from Lviv needs an expensive injection for spinal muscular atrophy, a disease that takes away the ability to walk.
In order for the child to have a chance, everyone who cares is invited to the Dovzhenka Center in Lviv for a charity concert on November 10. All funds from the tickets will be used for the treatment of the boy.
The price of Maksym Kyryk’s life is about 1,800,000 dollars. That’s how much the most expensive injection in the world costs – the drug “Zongelsma”, which is able to replace a congenital “broken” gene that causes the child’s muscles to weaken day by day. The family has already collected more than 80% of this amount, thanks to the help of every caring person who responded to their request. A little more than 330 thousand dollars remained – this is 5.5 times less than the already traveled path.
The insidiousness of the SMA disease is that such children either do not begin to walk, or soon lose this ability. Maksymchyk started. Now the parents spend all their time on his rehabilitation and exercises so that he retains this ability as long as possible. However, this is not a cure. The child still does not run and jump like peers, cannot climb stairs and walks only with support by the hand.
“We managed to collect 1.5 million dollars in one year to save our son,” says Petro Kyryk, Maksymko’s father. – There is only a little left, and we are asking for help from everyone. It should not be thousands of dollars or hryvnias – every 50, 100, 200 hryvnias is important to us. After all, even the largest mountains consist of smaller stones.”
By the way, due to an unexpected illness of his son, Petro Kyryk was forced to abandon his own rehabilitation. Two years ago, he got into a serious car accident, after which he spent a year in the hospital. At first he could walk only on crutches, later they were managed to be left, but his leg still does not bend. But now his only goal is to save his son.
