Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Mayor of Breda, Paul Deplom, and the Vice President of Wroclaw, Jakub Mazur. As part of this memorandum, the cities will strengthen trilateral cooperation.
Wroclaw (Poland) and Breda (the Netherlands) have been sister cities since 1991. Sister city relations between Lviv and Wroclaw were established in 2002. Then the three cities decided to strengthen their friendly relations and signed a memorandum approving further cooperation.
Short-term goals of cooperation:
1. The three parties will cooperate on a program to provide assistance to Lviv to meet its immediate needs.
2. Wroclaw and Breda will provide assistance and shelter to temporarily displaced persons from Ukraine and promote the implementation of programs for their return to their homeland in both cities.
3. The cities will make joint efforts to support the development of the UNBROKEN rehabilitation ecosystem in Lviv.
4. The three cities will jointly organize a technology forum.
As part of the long-term cooperation, it is planned to strengthen consultations on education to implement student and teacher exchange programs and deepen cooperation in the fields of culture, economy, trade, environmental protection and sustainable development.
Background.
Breda is a city in the Netherlands in the North Brabant region with a population of about 185 thousand people. Breda is one of the ten largest cities in the Netherlands. Historically, Breda was an industrial city, a center of the food industry and brewing. However, the decline in industry did not harm the city’s economy. Today Breda is a service-oriented economy based on business, trade and logistics. It has many international companies. There are also large factories in Breda.
Wroclaw is one of the largest and oldest cities in Poland, the capital of Silesia. The population of Wroclaw is 673 thousand people, making it the third largest city in the country. Wroclaw has many historical monuments from different eras. Wroclaw is also called the city of 12 islands and 112 bridges. Every year, more and more Polish and international companies appear in Wroclaw. This means that the city serves not only as a tourist center, but also attracts more and more people from all over the world to study and live there.
