LMKP “Lvivvodokanal” installed 12 water columns in Lviv in order to provide the city with another backup method of water supply. For this purpose, the forces of Lviv Vodokanal conducted the necessary geological surveys, identified places where there is a suitable aquifer and where certain sanitary requirements are met.
“Since June of this year, our enterprise has started work on bringing the old water columns in order and drilling new water columns in the city. In general, 12 mechanical columns have been installed on the wells.
It is important that these columns pump water from a well and do not take water from the city water supply network and are completely autonomous. New mechanical columns were installed in place of newly drilled wells, which were given to us as humanitarian aid by benefactors from Germany,” Lvivvodokanal LMKP says.
All water columns are working, and the water from them has passed laboratory tests. Before collecting water, it is recommended to “pump” the column a little to drain the water and after that the water can be used as spring water.

“Today, Lviv is supplied with water by 27 pumping stations and over 1,000 km of water pipes. Water is pumped to the city from the entire region at a distance of 20 to 110 km. But Lviv once had not only a centralized water supply, but also local water columns that “delivered” water from wells. It was enough to swing the lever a few times. Therefore, we plan to continue to restore the old columns and equip completely new ones”, – emphasizes the LMKP “Lvivvodokanal”.
