The waste processing plant in Lviv is 25% ready. Video

In Lviv, on the street Plastova, 13, the construction of a waste processing plant is underway. As of today, it is 25% ready, in particular, 100% of the design work has been completed and 80% of the working documentation has been produced. Construction works are carried out by the Polish company Control Process S.A.

The site on which the plant is being built is quite difficult, because the Poltva River flows nearby. Therefore, to enable construction work, more than two thousand piles were driven on the territory of the future plant. The total area of the site is 9.7 hectares, and the built-up area will be 21,901.30 m².

“In Ukraine, during the years of independence, not a single plant of this level was built, because there was no political will for it. On the other hand, the construction of such plants abroad had crazy grant support, because waste processing is the level of our civilization. Our task is to build a plant in Lviv, and to do it in a high-quality manner,” emphasized Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy.

The future plant will be able to process 250,000 tons of waste per year. This is the amount of waste currently collected in Lviv. If more power is needed, the technology will allow it to be provided.

“This is a whole mechano-biological complex. That is, there is not only sorting here, but also a set of equipment that will allow high-quality sorting of secondary raw materials, as well as preparing the material for RDF fuel – this is an alternative fuel that is a substitute for brown coal and gas and will allow in the future to provide our state with good material, which now used in many countries of the world. Now there are already two companies that are ready to buy RDF-fuel from us and there are also companies that are ready to buy secondary raw materials from us,” noted Taras Kaluzhny, director of LKP “Green City”.

Currently, more than fifty workers and 10 pieces of equipment are working on the construction of the plant in Lviv.

“Now we are pouring foundations, installing metal roof structures. In 3-4 months, we will cover the external facades of the plant with panels. We plan to finish the construction work by the end of the year, and the next year will be the delivery of various technological equipment for drying and other things,” said Krzysztof Habier, project manager, representative of the general contractor Control Process S.A.

The preliminary cost of the contract (equipment and work) for the construction of the waste processing plant is 36.6 million euros. But due to exchange rate changes and war, the cost of the project and equipment may increase somewhat. The implementation of the project is under constant international supervision.

“The works are performed according to the project. The weather conditions are not very favorable, but we hope that little by little everything will change and it will be easier to do all the work. We plan that by the end of the year, in the fourth quarter, we will hand over the construction part for the installation of the equipment,” said Volodymyr Rudevich, technical supervision engineer, international consultant, representative of the Hidroterra company.

It is expected that 184 people will work at the waste processing plant. In the near future, the management staff of the plant will go to Poland for long-term training.

In general, the establishment of a solid household waste management system in Lviv involves three important parallel processes:

construction of a mechano-biological complex of overloading and processing of solid household waste. As of now, 25% of the work has been completed.

reclamation of the Hrybovytskyi landfill (restoration of disturbed lands on the entire area of the Hrybovytskyi landfill and adjacent areas that were contaminated during the landslide in May 2016 and those occupied by lakes (precautionary storage tanks). As of April 1, 2023, 91% of the work on the Hrybovytskyi landfill has been completed all works

composting of separately collected food and garden waste (separate collection of organic and garden waste and their subsequent processing at the city composting station). For the past two years, LKP “Green City” has been selling organic products. Only from the beginning of 2023, 238 tons of compost were sold.
