Testing of cashless payment on bus routes in Lviv: what passengers should know about making fare payments

From June 5 to June 30, testing of cashless fare payment will continue on three bus routes of public transport No. 1A, 3A and No. 10. This is a new stage in the work of urban transport, and to get clear information and data during the test period, how well everything works, is the responsibility not only of drivers and controllers, but also of passengers. In particular, it is about the correct payment of the fare.

After all, on these routes, passengers have the opportunity to pay the fare as usual – in cash from the driver, as well as contactless – using a contactless bank card or other devices with NFC support.

To pay the fare in cash to the driver, you must enter through the front door of the vehicle and hand over the funds to the driver to pay for the fare, indicating whether the payment is for one passenger or more. After that, it is important to get a one-time paper ticket from the driver, which can be for one or more passengers, and enter the vehicle’s interior.

Payment in cash to the driver is made only when the vehicle is stopped. After the driver leaves the stop, the ASOP system will block the possibility of printing a paper ticket for cash for the safety of passengers.
It is recommended to pay attention to whether the date and time on the paper ticket correspond with the date and time of receipt of the ticket from the driver – this is important for passengers when checking the fare payment by controllers.
A paper ticket is a one-time ticket, without the possibility of a subsequent transfer. It is valid only within the final stops of the route.
The paper ticket does not need to be attached to the validator. It is automatically validated in the system upon issue and should be kept until the end of the trip for verification by the controller.
Passengers should not scan the QR code on the paper ticket with their phone’s camera. It is needed only for the controller to check the fare payment.
In order for the controller to be able to scan the QR code on the paper ticket and check the fact of paying the fare, passengers are urged not to bend or damage the paper ticket.

To pay for a trip contactless, you need to attach a bank card or a device with ApplePay\GooglePay support to the validator, wait for a single sound signal and a green tick on the validator, which indicates that the train has been successfully validated, and enter the vehicle interior. Passengers should know:

Validators do not print a receipt, therefore, after a single sound signal and a green tick on the validator, passengers can enter the interior of the vehicle and make a trip.
Fares are debited over several days, so passengers should focus directly on the green tick on the validator and the single beep to make sure they have paid.
After contactless fare payment, there is no need to inform the driver about making the payment. Fare validation is checked by the controller, for this passengers need to attach a bank card or device used to pay for the fare to his terminal.

“We call on all passengers to be aware when traveling in public transport – to pay for the fare without fail, and when paying in cash – to emphasize to the driver that he is issuing a paper ticket. In addition, we recommend that passengers pay attention to whether the date and time on the ticket correspond to the date and sometimes getting a ticket is important for passengers, when the controllers will be working on the line, because if an invalid ticket is issued, there is a risk of receiving a fine in the future,” Lvivavtodor LKP added.

It should be noted that about 30 control workers of the “Lvivavtodor” LLP work every day on bus routes #1А, 3А and #10. During the testing of cashless fare payment, they do not fine passengers, but only carry out educational activities – they help to validate LeoKart preferential transport cards, buy a ticket from the driver or make cashless fare payment.
