Testing cashless fare payment on Lviv buses: answers to 5 common questions

Since June 5, testing of cashless fare payment has been underway in Lviv on three public transport bus routes No. 1A, 3A and No. 10. Passengers can pay the fare in cash from the driver, as well as with a contactless bank card or other devices with NFC support.

“Currently, some of the passengers who use these bus routes already pay for their fare by attaching a contactless bank card or a device with ApplePay\GooglePay support to the validator. And a list of relevant issues that arise during payment in transport has already appeared”, LKP “Lvivavtodor” noted.

How is withdrawal of funds during non-cash payment and why is the money not withdrawn from the account immediately?

The ASOP system is built on the basis of delayed authorization. That is, the information about debiting funds for travel arrives within a few days. This is done for quick boarding of passengers in transport. First of all, passengers receive a notification in the application about pre-authorization – 1 hryvnia is “frozen” on the account, the system checks whether the card is active. After the payment for travel is withdrawn, this 1 hryvnia is returned to the account.

How to make sure that a successful fare payment has been made?

To ensure that the passenger has successfully paid the fare, it is worth focusing on the green tick on the validator and the single sound signal. After all, the controller verifies the fact of validation, not the debiting of funds from the card.

If there are several bank cards in the wallet and the wallet is brought to the validator, will the fare be deducted from all cards?

If there is more than one contactless bank card within the range of the reader, the validator rejects the reading of the cards and a red screen and a double beep appear. Debiting from bank cards occurs only if you present them in turn.

Why can I receive SMS messages from the bank about debiting funds for a trip that was made a long time ago?

If there were no funds on the balance at the time the fare was debited, repeated attempts are made to debit the funds at a certain frequency – 3, 5, 7, 14 days, etc. – depending on your bank.

If I accidentally revalidate my bank card, will I be charged for another ticket?

No, revalidation within the final stops will not result in a charge. During the first validation, the message “Login is registered” will be displayed on the validator’s screen, and during the second validation – “Login is already registered”.

And let us remind you that the testing of cashless fare payment on bus routes No. 1A, 3A and No. 10 will last approximately until June 30. At the testing stage, the fare does not change and remains at the level of UAH 15 for all payment methods.

Every day during this period, Lvivavtodor LLP control will work on the routes. During the test period, the controllers will not issue fines, but will conduct explanatory work for passengers – they will help validate LeoKart discounts, buy a ticket from the driver or pay cashless.
