As stated in the court verdict, which was made public in June 2023, Pavlo Stetsyuk, a native of the village of Volsvin, killed a 51-year-old woman and also stole her jewelry on the morning of July 13, 2019, in a forest near Chervonograd.

On July 13, 2019, a 51-year-old resident of Sosnivka did not return home from the night shift, she was declared wanted and on July 16, she was found dead in the forest between Chervonohrad and Sosnivka. The woman’s body was discovered by volunteers a kilometer from the Zahidniy Bug River, near the bridge, closer to the village of Volsvin.

At the court hearing, Pavlo Stetsyuk said that around the morning of July 13, he was riding a moped with a friend and saw a woman walking along the side of the road. The man offered her a ride, to which she agreed. Pavlo Stetsyuk dropped off his friend near Sosnivka, and continued to drive the woman home. On the way, the man offered the woman intimacy, to which, according to the accused, she agreed. Pavlo Stetsyuk declares that they drove into the forest near the village of Volsvyn, where they quarreled after sex. The accused began to beat the woman and then left her in the forest, covering her with branches. He claims that he did not see gold jewelry on the woman. The man stated that he did not take the jewelry, but admitted that he had committed the murder.

Pavlo Stetsyuk says that police officers came to him the next day, but “since they didn’t suspect anything, they left him alone.” The accused worked as a miner at the Mezhirichanska mine. After this incident, he went to earn money abroad. Law enforcement officers reported that a 26-year-old man was detained while trying to cross the border with Russia and the jewelry of the murdered woman was taken.

As reported by Zahid.net, in the opinion of the panel of judges, the actions of the accused do not constitute murder for selfish reasons and assault with the aim of seizing someone else’s property. The court comes to the conclusion that the accused committed an intentional murder during a sudden conflict, after which, seeing gold jewelry on the victim, he wanted to steal it.

The panel of judges reviewed the case materials and found Pavlo Stetsyuk guilty of premeditated murder. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison, but since Pavlo Stetsyuk was tried in November 2022 for causing minor bodily harm and stealing a car, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the totality of criminal offenses. The verdict can still be appealed.
