19-Year-Old from Lviv Region Detonates Grenade in Residential Courtyard in Sheptytskyi

In Sheptytskyi, a 19-year-old resident of the Lviv region was detained by police after detonating a grenade in the courtyard of an apartment building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, although the explosion damaged the windows of one apartment. The suspect now faces three to seven years in prison for his actions.

The explosion occurred on Sokal Street on January 20 around 6:00 p.m. Following the report, bomb disposal experts, investigators, and other law enforcement units arrived at the scene. An inspection revealed that the explosive device was an RGD-5 grenade.

Thanks to swift operational measures, the police identified the suspect and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office has charged the detainee under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses hooliganism involving the use of explosives. The individual faces a potential prison sentence ranging from three to seven years. The court will soon determine the preventive measure for the suspect.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement working to determine the origin of the grenade.
