20-year-old resident of Lviv region suspected of selling unfit plates for body armor to volunteers

Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a 20-year-old resident of Lviv Region was exposed and reported on suspicion of committing fraud, which caused significant damage to the victim (Part 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the suspect through the social network “Instagram” told the victims who are volunteering and helping volunteer battalions that they can sell them metal plates made of armor steel, which can withstand bullet shots according to state standards for bulletproof vests.

In the future, gaining the trust of volunteers, the defendant under the guise of such armor plates, sold to volunteers plates cut from ordinary metal, which are not suitable for military purposes. Thus, the defendant by fraud seized money in the amount of 140 thousand UAH.

Investigative actions are underway, the issue of choosing a measure of restraint for the suspect is being resolved.

Detection measures were carried out jointly with the Investigative Department of the State National Security Service in Lviv Oblast with the operational support of the Ukrainian SSR in the Lviv Oblast of the National Police of Ukraine.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proved in law and established by a court conviction.
