A 23-year-old resident of Strychi and a 21-year-old resident of Donetsk region “beat off” a non-existent debt from a Lviv resident

The attackers “extorted” a non-existent debt in the amount of four thousand US dollars from a Lviv resident – for this they put psychological pressure on him and used physical violence.

The members of the group – a 23-year-old previously convicted resident of the city of Stryi and a 21-year-old resident of the Donetsk region – were exposed by the operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region together with the investigators of the crime investigation department of the general criminal investigation department of the police of the Lviv region, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense Western region.

The victim handed over the first part of the funds in the amount of 21,000 hryvnias to the attackers, and a few days later, on August 7, the second “tranche” in the amount of 56,000 hryvnias. After that, the law enforcement officers detained the extortionists in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The next day, August 8, the law enforcement officers notified the detainees of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense, provided for in Part 4 of Article 189 (Extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of seven to twelve years with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
