Police detain offender who threatened to blow up a high-rise building in Lviv

A 26-year-old Lviv resident faces up to six years in prison for falsely reporting a threat to public safety.

On March 23, at 15:49, the 102 operational line received a report from a man that he would blow up a high-rise building on Shevchenko Street in Lviv.

Patrol policemen, investigators from the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2 and officers from other police services in Lviv immediately arrived at the address.

Law enforcement officers inspected the building and the surrounding area. No explosive devices were found.

The police found out that the false report was made by a 26-year-old Lviv resident who was intoxicated and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Art. 259 (Knowingly false report of a threat to the safety of citizens, destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of two to six years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspect.
