USD 3,000 for III disability group – doctor exposed in Lviv for receiving illegal benefit
Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Region Prosecutor’s Office, the head of a department of a Lviv hospital was exposed on extortion and receipt of an unlawful benefit for influencing the decision-making of a person authorised to perform state functions (Part 3 of Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the allergist, being the head of a department at a hospital in Lviv, demanded an undue benefit from a man of military age for “resolving the issue” of his receiving a third group disability.
The cost of this “service” was USD 3,000. For this money, the doctor was supposed to influence the officials of the regional MSEC to make the decision necessary for the “client”.
The woman was exposed while receiving the agreed amount of money.
During the search of her office, the SBU found and seized cash worth more than UAH 2 million in the hryvnia equivalent, as well as draft records.
Investigative actions are ongoing, other persons involved in the illegal activity are being identified. A notice of suspicion is being prepared to the doctor.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv Oblast, and operational support is provided by the SBU Office in Lviv Oblast.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
