41-year-old Lviv resident defrauds pensioners of UAH 500 thousand

Following a public prosecution by the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv, a 41-year-old Lviv resident was found guilty of fraud (parts 2, 3 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

He was sentenced to 5 years and 1 month of imprisonment.

It was established that the accused defrauded two elderly people in Lviv.

To do this, the pensioners were called on a landline phone and told false information that their close relatives had allegedly been involved in an accident and needed surgery and, accordingly, needed money.

After that, the man arrived at the victims’ place of residence, introduced himself as a medical worker, and they, in turn, handed him all their savings.

As a result of this scam, the accused seized more than half a million hryvnias.

The man is in custody.

The court verdict will come into force after the expiration of the appeal period.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Police Department No. 2 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
