Law enforcers block another channel of smuggling of persons liable for military service across the border in Lviv region

For $20,000, a 65-year-old Lviv resident and her accomplice, a 54-year-old resident of Lviv district, undertook to produce a set of fictitious documents for a man of military age to travel abroad under martial law. They also planned to smuggle the “client” across the state border of Ukraine to one of the European countries.

The criminals were exposed by investigators of the Economic and Official Crime Investigation Department of the Lviv Police Investigation Department jointly with operatives of the SBU Office in Lviv region, under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Law enforcement officers detained the offenders on 26 August in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after they received the full amount of money from the “client” – USD 20 thousand.

The criminals were served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 3 of Art. 332 (Illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspects.
