The police of the Lviv region searched for the driver who hit a pedestrian to death and fled

The 66-year-old resident of Odesa region faces up to eight years in prison for the crime.

On March 20, the police received a report from a resident of Stryi district that he found the body of his 68-year-old neighbor without signs of life on the side of the road in the village of Vovchatichi.

Operatives of the criminal police, an investigative-operational group and forensic experts of the Stryi district police department worked at the scene of the incident.

It was established that the man died as a result of a traffic accident.

Employees of the Department of Criminal Analysis of the Police of Lviv Oblast were also involved in the search for the runaway driver and the car that was hit.

After studying the recordings of the video surveillance cameras of the Bezpechna Lvivshchyna system, the law enforcement officers established that the collision was committed by a Mercedes Sprinter minibus registered in the Odesa region. At the time of the accident, a 66-year-old resident of Odeshchyna was driving the vehicle.

The police established his whereabouts – in the Odesa region. The minibus was taken to the detention center.

According to the fact, the investigators of the Stryi District Police Department, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of traffic safety rules) and Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Leaving in danger). . The maximum punishment provided by the sanction of the articles is up to eight years of imprisonment.

The issue of notifying the minibus driver of suspicion of committing the specified criminal offenses and choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident, and examinations have been ordered.
