Official and contractor on trial for almost UAH 700,000 worth of misuse during repair of hospital elevators
Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have sent to court an indictment against the deputy director for economic affairs of a district hospital in Lviv region and the head of a contractor company. They are charged with abuse of office and aiding and abetting abuse of office, respectively (Article 364(2), Article 27(5), Article 364(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that in 2022, the official, abusing her official position, organised the victory in the tender of a contractor company she needed. The latter was to provide services for the overhaul of three lifts and replacement of lift equipment in one of the district hospitals in Lviv region.
Subsequently, in accordance with the terms of the contract, the successful bidder installed the passenger lifts. However, the technical parameters and type of elevators did not meet the requirements of the tender, design and estimate, and reporting documentation.
The company’s director, knowing this, entered false information into official documents. In the act of acceptance of completed construction works and the certificate of their cost, he indicated equipment that did not correspond to the actual equipment installed, and also overstated its cost.
Thus, almost UAH 700 thousand was unjustifiably transferred to the business entity.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region, with operational support provided by the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region of the State Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
Note: In accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
