An ex-policeman will spend 9 years behind bars for a fatal road accident on the Lviv-Sheghini highway

According to the public indictment of the prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the former chief of the sector of one of the district police departments of the Main Department of the National Police in the Lviv Region was found guilty of violating the rules of traffic safety, which caused the death of several people and knowingly leaving them in danger (Part 3 of Article 286, Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 9 years in prison with a 3-year disqualification from driving.

It has been proven that in April 2022, an official driving a Renault car on the Lviv-Sheghyn highway, moving in the direction of Mostysk, drove into the oncoming traffic lane, where he collided with a VAZ car. After the collision, the policeman, being obliged by law to provide emergency aid, fled the scene, leaving the victims to fend for themselves.

As a result of the traffic accident, three people died, two people received injuries of varying degrees of severity.
